Helping Your Child Do a Science Fair Project Helping your son or daughter do a project means walking the fine line between doing too little and doing the project for him or her! When your child brings home the dreaded science fair assignment, you can start things off on the right foot with the words, "Great! I can help you, but the project is your responsibility." Erase the phrase, "We'll do this together," from your vocabulary. Remember that your attitude is contagious. Be enthusiastic and encouraging without being pushy. For younger students, we highly recommend So, You Have to Do a Science Fair Project (John Wiley & Sons, July 2002.) This book is full of advice for science fair moms and dads. It will help you through every step without ever putting the tip of a marking pen to your child's poster board! Talk to your child's teacher. Teachers often need concerned parents to get involved in the science fair as organizers or judges. They'll be grateful you asked!
